Juneteenth & Minority CARES

June 2020 | CCM News

As a pioneer in impact and ESG investing, CCM continually looks to create initiatives and support investments that contribute to positive societal outcomes. In this week’s blog, we wanted to share some exciting updates and initiatives addressing social justice and racial equality:

Juneteenth

June 19, or Juneteenth, commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. It was 1865 when slaves were officially set free and this date has been honored ever since. Juneteenth has been in the spotlight recently given the disturbing events that have taken place across our country. CCM acknowledges the importance and awareness of this date and will join other financial institutions such as J.P. Morgan, U.S. Bancorp, Capital One Financial, Comerica, PNC Financial Services Group, and Banco Santander in observing Juneteenth.1 Other sectors including retail, technology, sports, and media companies have also recognized Juneteenth as a holiday, and Andrew Cuomo, New York’s Governor also announced that he will sign an executive order declaring Juneteenth a holiday for state employees and will promote legislation for an official state holiday next year.2 In recognition of the importance of this date, our offices will close at 1pm and we encourage all employees, shareholders, clients, and friends to dedicate this time for community involvement and education towards social justice and racial equality.

Minority Community Advancement Racial Empowerment Strategy (Minority CARES)

Earlier today, CCM launched the Minority Community Advancement Racial Empowerment Strategy (Minority CARES) in response to strong client interest in investments that focus on improving the lives of those in historically marginalized communities and increased economic opportunity for people of color. Minority CARES anticipates investing over $2 billion over the next five years in market-rate bonds toward the initiative on behalf of investors.  For more information on Minority CARES, click here.
