Site Visit to CCM’s 2019 Impact Awards Winner

February 2020 | ESG investing

In this week’s blog, Martha Schuman, CCM’s Senior Client Portfolio Manager based on the West Coast, shares her thoughts from a recent visit to CCM’s 2019 Impact Awards Winner, the Rosenberg Apartments in Santa Rosa, California. She also highlights Buckelew Programs, a local non-profit that provides continuum services to Rosenberg Apartments.

In her words:

“The Rosenberg Apartments are situated in the heart of downtown Santa Rosa, conveniently located to all services and support the downtown has to offer. With mass transit and shops nearby, the property is extremely walkable and convenient to many employment locations. One of my biggest take-aways from Rosenberg is its partnership with the Buckelew program, which I also had the pleasure of visiting.

The Buckelew program assists adults, children, and families throughout Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties, with an assortment of behavioral health issues, ranging from bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia. Buckelew also assists with housing for adults that would otherwise be homeless and provides employment training, employment placement, outpatient counseling, outpatient substance use treatment and suicide prevention programs.

At Buckelew, they believe safe and stable housing is a key component in helping people recover from mental illness. The program helps to place individuals at risk of homelessness in safe housing, such as the Rosenberg Apartments, and as a result, ninety percent of the people in these programs are able to live independently and no longer depend on mental health facilities.

Over 600 local individuals have been served through Buckelew’s housing programs in Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties. And Rosenberg is one example of the program’s quality partners, who help to enable the programs participants live independently and off the streets. It was a pleasure to visit these two properties and understand the impact of our investments firsthand.”
